Houston...we have arrived!

Well, it has been awhile since I have updated the blog but we have been busy around here traveling, working, school started, and we were snowed in the last FOUR DAYS!!! Prepare yourself...this may be a long post...

Houston Weekend
On the weekend of January 22-23 we went to Houston for a quick trip. We really wanted to get away for a weekend while I was between semesters to just relax and enjoy ourselves so we decided to go to H-town for the weekend  overnight. It turns out that Jose, who has been off every Friday for a couple of months, just had to have a class at work that particular Friday. So, what did we do?! We decided to take it in stride and leave early Saturday morning. So we woke up at 0500 Saturday morning, took our time getting ready, and left our house at 0650.

I was super worried about Ipolito since the last time we went on a "long" ride was when he was an infant and that ride wasn't so much fun (he turned blue on the way to College Station). BUT...I had to realize that was then and this is now. Plus they (the wonderful doctors we went to) decided it was just a fluke or a malposition of his head, so the chances of that happening again were pretty low. Still...if  you know me...I am a HUGE worrier!

Well, we had the DVD player ready, his favorite movies, snacks, plus a bag of toys and activities to keep him occupied and apparently that did the trick. He had so much fun and knew we were going on a "ride" to see Papi's friend's, Kiko & Roque. We played, sang songs ("The Wheels on the Bus"), and watched movies. He stayed awake the entire trip and we made it Houston around 0945-1000.  We went directly to Kiko's house and went to breakfast/lunch at a lovely diner. There we ordered Ipolito some pancakes with specific instructions to use a clean spatula since he has an egg allergy. They brought him some pancakes in the shape of his favorite mouse, Mickey. They were cute but not very tasty (I tasted them). He took one bite and would not take another. I guess he can taste when something has egg in it because he usually takes one bite and won't take another, that and he breaks out in welts or turns splotchy and red (which he did). So, I had to go to the car to get his Benadryl. The diner did have amazing orange juice! It was freshly squeezed and super yummy.

Ipolito about to chow down!

After our delicious meal we drove out to the outlet mall with Kiko & Iris (his wonderful wife). Ipolito decided it was nap time at that point since he had been awake since 0630 and had Benadryl on-board. When we arrived at the mall it was warm and sunny outside. We put Ipolito in his travel stroller (which I am glad I convinced Jose to bring) and set off for some shopping. It was fun shopping with other people, which I haven't done in a really long time. We each got something and had fun times with amazing friends. I got a new Coach purse & some hats to wear when I exercise (have you seen my hair??!!). Ipolito got a new basketball & Jose got a shirt. Ipolito behaved amazingly well. He was quiet the first half of the mall b/c of the Benadryl then he was just taking everything in. It didn't hurt he got to go to the play area a couple of times and ride the rides along the way. After we left we went to Chick-Fil-A and shopping for the upcoming BBQ that evening. Ipolito fell asleep and woke up when we got to the hotel. Ipolito really liked Kiko or as he called him, "Cookie." He would say, "Okay Cookie."
 Riding the rides

Driving his truck
Riding the Lion King animal (I can't remember his name)! Ipo said it was a horse.
We stayed at the Omni Hotel in downtown Houston and it was spectacular. It was a very beautiful and we got a good deal. I would definitely stay there again. Here is where we started to run into some trouble though. Ipolito ate his late lunch/dinner and about 20 minutes later started telling us his "poo poo" hurt. I told him it was okay to go poo poo b/c Mommy or Papi would clean it. But he just kept saying it and his tummy was "owie". We went back to Kiko's after we got ready and Ipolito got crankier and crankier, which isn't like him at all. He is usually very busy, active, and happy. It soon became apparent something was wrong with him. He couldn't go #2. He is a very regular little boy (2-3 times a day) and until that point hadn't gone at all. I figured it was because he was off of his schedule and because he hadn't eaten too much.  He eventually got more crankier and just wanted to lay down which isn't like him at all. He then got super hot. Jose & Kiko went to the nearest store and bought him some prune juice, Tylenol (ours was at the hotel...I know...Mom of the Year award), and glycerin suppositories.
Starting to feel bad. You can see his facial expression
Papi relaxing

I had taken his temp when they were gone and it was elevated. I immediately gave him the Tylenol and prune juice. Then we went down stairs to the guest bathroom and proceeded to give him his suppository. Let me tell you it was the most awful thing I have EVER done to my child! I wanted to cry and he kept telling me his poo poo hurt. After about 30 minutes, the Tylenol kicked in and our little boy was partially back to normal. He wanted to play Kinect with his papi and was smiling....still no poo poo but he was turning the corner. Once we arrived back to our room he let it all out. We all went to bed and slept like babies.

We did enjoy the BBQ Kiko and Iris had in our honor. The food was amazing and it was nice to see some of the college crew. I was also able to out dance Kiko on Dance Central.  I told him I was good. The next day we woke up, took our time getting ready, and went to eat at a restaurant they had in College Station, Los Cucos. It was just as we remembered...YUMMY! Ipolito still didn't eat too much but that was okay. Afterwards we went to Roque and Diana's house to the spend the afternoon. Ipolito wanted to go see "Cookie" but we explained it was Roque's turn. He like Roque as well and called him, "Rockfy." We had lots of fun. They had a BIG dog named, Bo and Ipolito was terrified of it! Actually, I am not telling the entire truth, I was also terrified of him, but Roque and Diana were nice about keeping him away from us. We headed home that afternoon and Ipolito slept almost the entire way home. I was glad to be home and put Ipolito back on his schedule.
Wow....look at all of these remote controls....the possibilities are endless!

 Ready to go see Rockfy

The Doctor
A few days later, I decided to take Ipolito to the doctor because his dreaded cough had returned and he was still complaining his poo poo hurt. It turns out he had a double ear infection. His first ever! After getting him on antibiotics his cough and elimination problems cleared right up.  Now...Ipolito LOVES medicine. I have no problem getting him to take it and he actually looks forward to it. I really have to keep it out of his reach b/c I worry his love for it might get him in trouble.
